The only maintenance required on the shaft is the rear spline lubrication with moly60 lube, easy to do and not often. It's one fast bike.

Of course, cannot totally rule out a wiring issue. Would take apart the kill and starter switch and clean contacts. Would also replace the starter relay (they are inexpensive). If the engine fires good cold, compression is probably OK. Check your plugs. A cracked or burnt out plug can cause high speed misfires and stalling as well.
